Getting a new dog is one of the most exciting things one can experience in their life!. You have a furry little companion that you have to love and take care of.

Even if you are not a parent yet you still feel like one. If you haven’t ever owned a pet in your life and are just starting out with a doggo then here are 6 tips will be useful for you:

1.     Be prepared for the change

Getting a dog is not like getting a stuffed toy that you find cute and just buy it. There will be some minor or major adjustments and changes that will happen in your home but hopefully all for the better.

It also depends if you got a puppy or an adult dog. Puppies require more care and attention so that you can train them well whereas adult dogs need to adjust to a new environment and usually take a bit longer than puppies.

You have to be patient with your dog and start getting used to it as well.

2.     Dog care

Just like for kids, you have to make sure they are cleaned, fed on time, taken for vaccinations etc, the same goes for dogs as well. You have to make sure they are groomed, getting adequate nutrition and play time.

3.     Find a vet

You will be making regular vet visits with your dog to make sure that there aren’t any fleas, ticks or any other health issues with your precious pup.

Not only will you have your dog in good shape but the vet will also guide on how you can take better care of your dog according to its requirements.

4.     Dog supplies

Dog food is not the only thing you should be buying. Your dog needs its very own supplies such as toys, bowls, blankets, leashes, collars, kennel, crates, sleeping pillow, doggie outfits and accessories etc. Toys especially the chewing ones, are important for your dog because if you are not around, there is always that can keep it busy.

5.     Doggie diet

You have to make sure that your dog is getting the right and optimum nutrition everyday. Every dog has different dietary requirement so you have to do your research on that one. The only rule of thumb you should note is if your dog is happy and healthy on a certain kind of dog food, then that is probably the correct one.

6.     Play time and training

Dogs are social creatures so it’s imperative that you spend time with it every day.  A daily walk is a must otherwise dogs try to take out their pent up energy and frustration by chewing on furniture or shoes etc. Train your dog simple tricks so that you can easily incorporate them in your play time. Start by simple tricks such as sitting, staying, playing dead, rolling over and then you can move your way to advanced ones.
